Michael Jeffcoat

A member of the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers, Michael Jeffcoat has spent more than two decades as one of South Carolina’s most tenacious advocates for injured individuals. As founder and managing attorney of The Jeffcoat Firm, known across the Columbia, SC market under the motto Take A Stand™, he has built a practice centered on a single conviction: when individuals go up against powerful corporations and insurance companies, they deserve a lawyer who fights back without hesitation. That philosophy has guided the firm since its founding in 1999 and remains the thread running through every case it takes on.

After earning a B.A. in Political Economy and Philosophy from Wofford College in 1994, Michael went directly to the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he competed in Moot Court and clerked at two separate U.S. Attorney’s Offices, in both Columbia and Seattle, as well as the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

He earned his Juris Doctor in 1997. His early career briefly took him into corporate defense work at a prominent Columbia firm, but it didn’t last long. Watching how large companies and insurers operated made one thing clear: he needed to be on the other side of the table. In 1999, he left to launch the plaintiff’s practice he had always envisioned.

What started as a solo operation has grown into one of South Carolina’s most recognized personal injury firms, having recovered millions on behalf of clients across a broad range of cases, from catastrophic car and truck accidents to motorcycle crashes, wrongful death, nursing home neglect, medical malpractice, and product liability.

The Jeffcoat Firm was named a finalist for the 2025 Best Legal Innovation Award by Law.com’s Daily Report, reflecting the firm’s commitment to pairing strong advocacy with modern, client-centered systems and case management.

His commitment to the profession extends well beyond his own caseload. Michael Jeffcoat serves as a State Delegate to the American Association for Justice, holds a long-standing position on the board of the South Carolina Association for Justice, and previously served as a member of the South Carolina Bar’s House of Delegates. He also invests in the next generation of lawyers through a scholarship fund at the USC Joseph F. Rice School of Law, supporting students pursuing public interest law, which is a reflection of his belief that the legal profession exists to make things better for people, not just to win cases.

Outside the office, Jeffcoat is an avid outdoorsman. Fishing and hiking are longtime favorites, but he’ll tell you his daily reset is cooking, a practice he values precisely because it demands full attention and clears the noise that comes with running a demanding litigation practice.
